Bar Harbor® Smoked Kipper Spread

Our Smoked Kippers have an appealing flavor that tastes like it’s been smoking outside all day. You can make this appetizer smooth or chunky, and enjoy it with French bread or crackers.

What is a kipper?

The term applies to the process of splitting, cleaning and cold-smoking herring. Herring are a small fish that is eaten in a variety of ways, but many cultures have smoked herring in their diets. For instance, in the U.K. it is eaten for breakfast along with eggs and bread.

Highest consumption of herring is in Germany, Poland and the U.K. These countries are followed by Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Hungary, while here in the U.S., we eat about 10% compared to what is consumed in these countries. We’d like to change that and introduce more American consumers to our delicious shelf-stable, fully-cooked smoked kippers.

Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers.
